Water Service Line Information & Inventory

In addition to performing routine maintenance and upgrades to our water treatment and distribution system in 2024, we will be taking steps to identify the types of service line materials used by each of our customers and begin the process of updating our meter reading system.

The U.S. EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision requires us to identify all lead service lines by October 16, 2024.  We need your help to comply with this federal requirement.  We’re asking water customers to verify the material of the customer-owned portion of their water service line for the inventory and provide your water meter serial number for the meter reading system update.  The service line is the pipe that connects your home or building to the water main in the street (see image below). Service lines may be made of lead, copper, galvanized metal, or plastic.

We have created an e-mail address, info@strasburgboro.org, for you to forward us your information.  Please use your street address for the subject of the message and attach a clear photo of your service line and a clear photo of your water meter serial numberYou will receive follow-up instructions if you verify that you have a lead or galvanized service line.  Please submit your information by Friday, February 9, 2024.  If you need assistance or have questions, please call the office at 717-687-7732.

Below are examples of the different materials used for service lines and how you can tell what material your line is.
