Strasburg Borough Council May 12, 2026 Municipal Brief

At the May 12, 2026 Strasburg Borough Council meeting, Borough Council discussed the Strasburg Area Sertoma Club’s request to find someone willing to chair the Memorial Day Parade Committee for the 2027 parade.  The current chairman is willing to train his replacement.  Anyone interested in serving in this capacity should contact the Strasburg Area Sertoma Club or the Strasburg Borough Office.

In other business, Borough Council 1) accepted Beiler Development LLC’s petition to amend the zoning map to rezone 1 Prospect Road from R-2 to R-3 and referred review of the petition to Strasburg Borough Planning Commission and the Lancaster County Planning Department.  A public hearing will be held before Borough council after their reviews are completed.  2) approved the payment of the bills, 3) approved a Historical Architectural Review Board Certificate of Appropriateness for an awning at 224 ½ Miller Street, 4) approved Strasburg Township’s request for the Strasburg Fire Police to assist at the Rails and Ales event on 4/3/2027, and 5) approved the Brendle Tract Sewer Module Resolution.

The Borough Manager’s written report was received and accepted. The report contained updates on the following items:  1) The stormwater project continues and is on schedule to finish the work on East Main Street and remove the detour before the Memorial Day Parade.  The South Decatur Street detour will begin on May 26, 2026 and is anticipated to last approximately 6-8 weeks.  2) He attended the May Historical Architectural Review Board meeting and thanked the members for their service. There are still two vacancies on the board for property owners who reside in the Historic District.  3) We have received $75,915.45 in interest so far this year.  4) The temporary traffic signal post at the Square that was installed after the post was hit on April 5, 2026 was hit by a truck and damaged on April 30, 2026.  Telco repaired the temporary light.  We are working with Telco and the insurance company to update the traffic signal post to meet current PennDOT standards.  Other improvements at the Square include installing required ADA-compliant handicapped walks and removing the Bradford Pear trees, as recommended by the Tree Committee.  5) Speckled Hen is completing their parking lot.  6) E-bikes were discussed at the LCBA meeting.  7) 81% of real estate taxes have been collected by the County of Lancaster by April 30, 2026.  8) The UCC Ordinance has been adopted by all participating communities.

The Police Chief reported 362 calls for service in April 2026.  There were 2 criminal arrests, 4 speeding arrests, 17 other traffic arrests, 35 traffic warnings, 4 parking tickets, and 5 accidents.  Officer Mowbray attended in-house instructor certification training for Personal Protection Control and Defense.  Sergeant Neidinger and Officer Remington attended an Autism Awareness for First Responders course.
